WASHINGTON — Members of South Florida's congressional delegation Monday warned legislative leaders not to eliminate spending next year for Everglades restoration.
In a bipartisan letter to state House Speaker Marco Rubio and other key leaders, the congressmen warned that it would be "counterproductive" for Florida to stop funding cleanup operations outlined in a 2000 federal-state agreement and would undermine the state's "ability to secure federal funding now and in the future."
