 Big Win in Missouri

Our anti-rBGH coalition won a great victory in Missouri as their state legislature adjourned without passing the House and Senate bills that were originally written to ban any kind of rBGH-free labeling.

A tremendous amount of credit goes to the Missouri Rural Crisis Center, the in-state leaders and coordinators of other groups. They were complemented by the alert networks in Missouri of several of our national organizations, including Food and Water Watch, Consumers Union, Center For Food Safety, Working Assets, Cornucopia Institute, and Organic Consumers Association. Although we don't have an exact count, it's likely that thousands of contacts were made to legislators opposing these bills. This was a classic example of the power of teamwork the seamless coordination of local, state and national groups that all of us organized in a matter of weeks. A BIG congratulations to everyone involved!

Meanwhile, we're still waiting to hear back from agriculture departments in Kansas and Utah, who have drafted rules that would restrict labeling. Kansas has had a stakeholders' meeting and Utah a formal hearing and both are expected to come back with revised wording. Finally, there is a good chance that a lawsuit may be filed against Ohio for their rules restricting labeling.
