Impact of Federal Commodity Programs on School Meal Nutrition
This study, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is an indictment of school nutrition programs as major contributors to the childhood obesity problem in the U.S. USDA offers 180 different commodity food items a year totaling approximately $1 billion; providing the largest single source of food for school meals.
