LOS ANGELES, CA (September 15, 2008) – Hailing from a small town in Alaska, 15-year-old Garrett sets out to investigate the direct link between diet and disease, and in the process he learns about world’s simplest cure for cancer.   An inspirational journey of a boy who learns about the dangers of the toxic materials that surround us, THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH, written and directed by Steve Kroschel, will premiere at The Quad Cinema in New York City on November 14,  followed by the Los Angeles premiere at the Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 on November 26.

Growing up on an Alaskan animal reserve, Garrett’s father recognized his son’s interest in the dietary habits of their animals.  After the accidental and tragic death of his mother, 15-year old Garrett began spiraling downward and fast.  His father withdrew him from school to prevent him from flunking out, after which he was home-taught. His father assigned a book written by Dr. Max Gerson, which maintains that there is a direct link between diet and a cure for cancer.  Fascinated and curious, Garrett embarks on a cross-country road trip to investigate the merits of the Gerson Therapy.  He meets with scientists, doctors and cancer survivors who reveal how the multi-billion dollar medical industry has made it their mission to dismiss the notion of alternative and natural cures.

Garrett’s travels introduce him to Dr. David Kennedy, the past president of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology and an expert on mercury in amalgam fillings; Dr. John Olney, a renowned neuroscientist, founder of the field of science known as “excitotoxicity” and leading researcher on the links between aspartame, MSG (monosodium glutamate) and brain cancer; and Dr. Hal Huggins, a former licensed dentist who now is a pioneer in identifying toxic dental materials, balancing body chemistry and exposing the dangers of fluoride.

As chronic disease rates soar in this country, THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH shines a light on a little-known but a much-reviled (by the American Medical Association) cure for cancer known as Gerson Therapy.   In 1928, Gerson, a German Jew, discovered a therapy based on eliminating toxins that are ingested from air, water and food by consuming an all natural diet that boosts the immune system.  With its whole-body approach to healing, the Gerson Therapy cites over 200 articles in respected medical literature and scientific documentation about thousands of people cured of their “incurable” diseases through the therapy program over the last 60 years. Dr. Albert Schweitzer said of Gerson, “I see in Gerson one of the most eminent medical geniuses to ever walk among us.”  Despite the dismissal by the pharmaceutical and medical industries, the Gerson Therapy has proven to be effective and his legacy is carried on by his daughter Charlotte Gerson, who is also featured in the film.

This is the first feature length documentary for Director Kroschel, who is also an avalanche expert, wildlife expert, widowed father and a natural history filmmaker for over 20 years.  His directorial credits include, “Out of the Wilderness,” “Avalanche,” and “The Adventures of Black Feather.” He has shot over 100 documentaries for National Geographic, the BBC, and PBS with additional feature film credits including, “Vertical Limit,”  “Eight Below Zero,” “Seven Years in Tibet,” ” I Spy,” “Never Cry Wolf,” “Pathfinder,” “Wild America” and more. His personal journey has included the discovery of the Gerson Therapy thereby finding himself, “compelled to make an entertaining, yet convincing film to inform the world of the imperative and life-changing knowledge that I had stumbled upon.” Garrett, the young man featured in the film, is his son.

THE BEAUTIFUL TRUTH opens on November 14, 2008 at the Quad Cinema in New York City, followed by  Los Angeles on November 26 at the Laemmle’s Music Hall 3 with a platform release to follow.
