A small-scale, family-run, sustainable farm in Gig Harbor, Washington launched a blog today in effort to couple the far reaching effects of the Internet with the local flavor of organic farming. As more people realize the benefits of organic farming, Peace of the Earth Organic Farm hopes to fill a void of organic producers in the Gig Harbor / Tacoma area.

Managed by Hillary and Brian Bergren, Peace of the Earth is situated on roughly 10 acres of beautiful Pacific Northwest pasture land. Currently, the farm only uses a fraction of the total acreage, but the couple seeks to expand in the coming years and provide fresh, organic produce farmed in a sustainable manner to the local population. The land was generously donated for use by a retired state politician and her husband. "We couldn't be more thankful for their incredible kindness. Their generosity has enabled us to begin our dream of creating a farm that meets the needs of our surrounding community," said Brian Bergren, the self-professed "braun" of the operation. "Hillary is certainly the brains of this farm; she studied sustainable agriculture under the tutelage of some incredible people at The Evergreen State College. In Olympia"

The couple plans to begin a community supported agriculture (CSA) program next year. For a small fee at the beginning of the growing season, Peace of the Earth Farm will deliver a box of fresh, organic produce every week for 20 weeks to farm shareholders. Brian and Hillary also plan to supply local restaurants with their produce needs; numerous establishments in the Gig Harbor area attempt to purchase all produce from local growers. Peace of the Earth Farm will meet this need with their already impressive bounty of sustainably grown and harvested vegetables.
