(A parody of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs & Ham, in protest of the companies[1] which support the American public not having a right to know what is in our food, (via their funding the deceptive No on 37[2] campaign in CA,) and thus, the hijacking and poisoning of the U.S. food supply and environment with GMO’s,[3] aided and abetted by the nonfunctional U.S. FDA, and a corporate-owned government which allows this right under its nose!)

I am Sam

Sam I am!

This Sam-I-am

Does not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Do you like poison corn[4]

In whose DNA pesticide is born?

Do you like animals raised with toxic feed

From companies who lust on only greed?

Aided by their former colleagues now in our FDA,[5]

They’ve rigged the game, keeping “precautionary principle”[6] at bay.

Do you like a fish in your tomato[7]

or a “Round-up ready”[8] potato?

And how about seeds that make bugs explode,[9]

by killing them with tainted load,

Which survives your digestive tract,

. . . in research this is backed![10]

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Would you like them in your soup?

Then by Campbell’s you’ll be duped!

Would you like them in Fruit Loops?

That’s when Kellogg’s says “whoops!”

Would you like them with the Mayor?

If so, you can count on Bayer!

Surely you’d like a GMO kiss

Disguised in Hershey’s chocolate bliss?

How about in Nestle’s ice cream sundae?

Or in Pepsi’s snacks called Frito Lay?

How about in your Lucky Charms

Courtesy of General Mills farms?

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

How about in your sour cream

From the Land O’ Lakes team?

What if they came from Dupont or Dow

Would that whet your appetite now?

How about while sipping a Coke,

Leaving your health a joke?

What about in a can of fruit

Concocted with Del Monte loot?

Or perhaps in blueberry jam

Delivered by the Smucker’s man?

Or how about in a can of Spam

Carried on a Hormel tram?

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Do you like them in tuna fish?

If so, Bumble Bee Foods has your dish!

How about in a cranberry tart,

Arriving on an Ocean Spray cart?

Or perhaps in your coffee cake,

Which Bimbo Bakeries will proudly bake?

Would you eat them in your meat?

Sara Lee’s got Hillshire Farms treats!

Would you eat them in a pancake?

With Aunt Jemima and Mrs. Butterworth’s on the take!

Do you want them in your cow?

Then let Dean Foods take a bow!

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Would you eat them with a spice,

With McCormick’s unseen health price?

Would you eat them in your shrimp?

Rich Products can be your pimp!

Would a pineapple entice?

Then Dole will happily suffice!

Would you taste them in your applesauce?

Then Knouse’s Musselman’s brand is the boss!

How about in your chewing gum?

There, Wrigley is second to none!

What about in Snickers or M&M?

Concocted by the Mars milkmen?

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Can I change your mind with Sunny Delight,

Or Hero Nectar Juice just right?

Or Solae brand with “ethics inside?”

By B.S. you’ll be taken on a ride!

Or how about with a French fry from McCain,

Whose common sense has left with the train?

Will you eat it with ketchup?

Then with Heinz you should sup!

How about with cheese on top?

Then off to Kraft should you hop!

What about with a glass of juice,

Using Tree Top and Welch’s as excuse?

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Do you like it in a meatball?

Smithfield’s “Armour” answers your call!

How about a potato with chives?

Idahoan will make you come alive!

May I tempt you with sweet corn?

From JMR Farms it was torn!

Would you have some in your tea?

Lipton will package that for you and me!

How about with some mayonnaise?

You’ll love Hellmann’s winning ways!

Will you eat it on a pizza pie?

Then Richelieu is the one to try!

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

Can I lure you with a sweet,

In the form of Godiva treat?

Or perhaps with a bit of salt

From Morton will you take a halt?

Will Similac and Pedialyte do,

From Abbott “Nutrition” fooling you?

Will your baby like Enfamil or Enfragrow blends?

If so, on Mead Johnson’s answer you’ll depend!

And what about brands who like to hide?

Give BASF, Bunge, and Cargill a ride!

With ConAgra and Syngenta behind the scenes,

You’ll remember whose messing with genes!

I do not like them,

Sam-I-am.

I do not like

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

And what of associations lurking in the dark,

Where Grocery Manufacturers and Biotech[11] do park?

But one company goes beyond greed,

To stealing and destroying seeds,[12]

And making seed saving a crime,[13]

For global food control they do opine!

Monsanto[14] takes us all for fools,

Thinks monopolizing seed control is cool,

Leaves Indian farmer suicides[15] in its wake,

The Greed-at-all-Cost award it takes!

When will this GMO insanity end,

The answer rests with you my friend!

I will not buy them[2]

Sam I am!

I will not buy[2]

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

I’m glad to hear that you’ll have found

That GMO food is change profound,

Where cancer, tumors, and reproductive problems in mice,[16]

Isn’t something that you’d called nice,

61 countries[17] agree with you and me

Labeling GMO’s so we’ll see!

Why is it in country so “free”

That transparency cannot be?

Where Russia and China have rights not known

To Americans whose rights are on loan?

Go forth and boycott[2] en masse!

Be you elephant or ass!

I’m calling out an SOS[18]

Sam I am!

I’ll tell all not to buy[2]

GMO eggs and toxic ham!

AUTHOR BIO:

Leslie Sheridan is a consultant, poet, and citizen journalist who has published an online political newsletter called The Carpe Diem Voice since March of 2003 as an alternative to the corporate-owned “news” media for those who want the real news in our world. (Those who wish to see a sample of her newsletter or subscribe can find her easily on Linkedin.com, with the newsletter mentioned at the bottom of her profile.) She is a staunch Independent who is appalled at what has been done to our food supply and planet, with the support of the U.S. government, right under our noses! This is nothing short of criminal and she hopes that one day the guilty parties will be brought to justice. Many thanks to Dr. Seuss for his timeless wit and wisdom!
