BRUSSELS: European Union governments blocked approval Wednesday of a genetically modified potato made by BASF and three corn varieties developed by Monsanto, hampering EU efforts to expand the market for bioengineered crops.
The opposition by health regulators from some countries prevents fast-track approval of the Amflora potato from BASF for animal feed and the Monsanto corn types for feed and food. The European Commission, the 27-nation EU's executive arm, must now ask government ministers to give their verdict in a step that will add months to a process that the United States says is too slow...

The United States has it backwards--the European Commission is not too slow, rather, the U.S., dictated by its narrow corporate view is too fast. It's called getting it into production so it is unlikely to be stopped (the moving train syndrome) and before proper studies show real consequences from plant cell toxicitiy.
The moving train of getting GMO into all our foods needs to be stopped now before the eventual train wreck.

Agreed. How do we reign in the incredible abuses of power enacted on our watch? Our government is a mere shell, with corporations dictating what's said (like the too-eager Dubya at a public speech trying to listen to that wire in his ear). How dare we let our politicians go and arm-twist in the EU to get the corporate gravy train rolling over there? But, again, how exactly do we stop it? i could go out in the street, but it's dark, and it's just me, and no one would get it. How and where can we get organized to make a difference? I'll join! --diana

Ditto... I could walk out and find a handfull willing to help on my street but we wouldn't want to walk across a few street in the neighbor with anti-GE banners! That is how people "disappear."
Problem might be, though undoubtedly correct, we have not reached that critical mass...

Hm... How many does it take?

One of the best ways to make a difference IMHO is to be what some would consider to be a pain in the a** with your own family about what they eat and buy(I am talking everything here). And they either will never change or start to change and they spread the word to people. Because we all know we like to talk when we know some piece of info ,haha. I think that if you bug your mother about her gross milk then she may stop buying it, and when she goes over to her friends house and they have tea , she tells her, and so on.
The major problem with informing is that as we all know apathy is deadly, and only a very, very small % of people care to continue to learn and educate themselves about the current disaster of world affairs. When I search anything organic in the major search engines it brings up this site in most of the top results. So , if people are searching I think they will find it. And I think for views of posts to count towards a cumulative post view you may have to be registered to post. If that is the case then the views could be way higher then what we see, but only the webmaster of the site could tell us how many unique views they get/day/year, etc. But the majority of these only get 300 views out of 300,000,000 US residents, and that is the problem. (Most people here know this already, not sure why I typed it, but , hey maybe it will provide more inspiration to educate)
