Congress Agriculture Committee Head, Colin Peterson, Says U.S. Consumers Who Buy Organic Food Are 'Dumb'

Excerpt from Financial Times article.

"But those in charge of farm policy largely disagree, and their view is almost certain to prevail. Collin Peterson, chairman of the House of Representatives agricultural committee, says the farm sector that raises organic produce and grass-fed beef for local consumers needs little federal help. ' It is growing, and it has nothing to do with the government, and that is good,' he told the FT. 'For whatever reason, people are willing to pay two or three times as much for something that says 'organic' or 'local'. Far be it from me to understand what that's about, but that's reality. And if people are dumb enough to pay that much then hallelujah. '"

This is the same tool that, along w/ Sen Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) Is spearheading the move to exempt CAFOs from the CERCLA (superfund) regulations that would hold Big corporate AG responsible for the wastes from the horror houses they call feedlots. According to those two, manure, even when it's full of the synthetic hormones and antibiotics in the same classes used by humans even when it comes from animals practically force fed GMO feedstock, that manure isn't toxic waste. Well alrighty. Then I'm sure the good Congress critters would be happy to invest in some real estate down wind of some CAFOs so the poor farmers trapped there that think otherwise could move elsewhere, huh? Yeah, didn't think so...
