A Quick Note to Subscribers
Over the last two weeks we changed Organic Bytes around, and due to some coding and design details some of you received blank or unreadable newsletters. We apologize for the mix-up, and are assured by our tech hobbits that everything should be in order once again.
If you'd like to read any past issues of Organic Bytes that you may have missed, please visit our Organic Bytes archive.
Quote of the Week
China's Organic Revolution
"For years, humans have tried to conquer nature, but in doing so, they themselves became conquered. They lost their connection with the earth. They destroyed the land they were tilling. In Buddhist belief, there are no pesticides, no bad insects, no good ones. There is only imbalance in the world. We must restore that balance."
-Han Guojie, water-quality engineer turned farmer, quoted in "Sowing Seeds for an Organic Revolution," by William Wan in the Washington Post, November 2, 2010

After the Elections
539 Candidates Answer Organic Consumers GMO Survey
Thanks to everyone who sent the Organic Consumers Fund's 2010 GMO Survey to candidates running in the 2010 elections. 539 congressional, state-wide, and state legislative candidates went on record, letting us know whether they support mandatory labels on foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). "Yes" means they support mandatory labeling. "No" means they do not.
Survey Results
Now, we need to push all the newly elected state and federal legislators to take a stand on mandatory GMO labels.

After the Elections
Anti-Frankenfish Candidates Win Races
The Obama Administration is considering approval of the first genetically modified animal, a fast-growing GMO salmon Frankenfish. Several Senators and Members of Congress have been putting pressure on the Obama's FDA to stop the Frankenfish, and, short of that, to at least require it to be labeled "GMO." And, they're all still in office after the 2010 mid-term elections!
Anti-Frankenfish Senators and Members
Let's make public opposition to Frankenfish the first message the new Congress hears.

Monsanto-Funded Candidates Win Races
Monsanto spent $470,631 on the 2010 mid-term elections. Five of the Senate candidates they supported lost their races, while ten won.
Monsanto's Candidates
Let the new Congress know that voters don't trust politicians who take money from Monsanto.
