Tell Congress to Support Biotech Labeling Bill and GE-Food Safety Testing Bill
This is a coordinated national effort with other groups.
|
Two good bills. Both are still in committee. The sponsors won't bring these bills to the floor for a vote until
more legislators become cosponsors. That's your job. Check the lists of cosponsors below. If
your legislators are not on the list, call your representative and senators at 202/224-3121, and tell them to cosponsor
the following bills:
- The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act
In the Senate, this is called "S. 2080" (Sponsor: Senator Boxer of California). It has no cosponsors
in the Senate.
In the House, this is called "H.R. 3377" (Sponsor: Rep. Kucinich of Ohio). It has 56 cosponsors in
the House (see below)
This bill would require biotech food to be labeled for consumers.
- The Genetically Engineered Food Safety Act
In the Senate, this is called "S. 2315" (Sponsor: Sen. Moynihan of New York. He is retiring, so probably
co-sponsor Sen. Boxer will take over)
In this House, this is called "H.R. 3883" (Sponsor: Rep. Kucinich of Ohio). It has 12 cosponsors in
the House (see below).
This bill would require novel genes to be treated as food additives, with compulsory safety testing.
Please take a few minutes before Election Day to phone your representative and two senators (at 202/224-3121) and
ask them to support the two bills that are in the House or the Senate. We don't yet know what position many of
the legislators will take. If you find out about any of them, please let Genetic Engineering Action Network know:
