March 9, 2002 Milwaukee Journal SentinelWisconsin residents must wake up and realize chronic wasting disease in the wild deer herd is a time bomb waiting to go off. Considering the fact Wisconsin generates more than $20 million annually in deer hunting license sales alone, it's easy to see how this disease could cripple the state's economy. To help the state Department of Natural Resources do its job, residents should demand immediate bans on deer baiting and feeding practices and on the interstate transport of deer and elk.
This is a problem that isn't going to go away any time soon. If we don't act swiftly, we'll ruin a resource for generations to come.
