60% of Americans Oppose Cloning as Immoral and Wrong

Most Americans Say Cloning Is Wrong

UTICA, N.Y. (Reuters/Zogby) - More people say they think cloning is
immoral-not a great medical achievement, according to a recent nationwide
survey.

In a Zogby America poll of 1,201 adults, 58.5% said they believe cloning
is immoral and wrong compared with 35.6% who said they think cloning would
be extraordinary way to cure disease and provide transplants.

Respondents ages 18-24 were the most supportive of cloning with 42.7%
compared with 38.4% of those 35-54 and 32.7% of those 55-69.

Whites were more likely to support cloning (37.2%) compared with African
Americans (26.5%) and Hispanics (29.5%).

``Which of the following statements best represent your view:

Statement A: Cloning is an extraordinary medical achievement that will aid
in the cure of genetic diseases and provide organs and tissues for
transplants

Statement B: Cloning is tampering with the essence of life. It is morally
wrong to artificially create life, and we are not advanced enough morally
or emotionally to use it for good.''
