The last issue of Organic View (Spring 2002) incorrectly stated that
Fairfax, California had passed a city ordinance banning the use of all
pesticides within its city limits. The actual ordinance can only be applied
to town-owned properties. So, private lawns and school grounds may still be
sprayed with toxic pesticides. However Fairfax schools are moving towards
reducing toxic pesiticides. Private parties can spray, but they just
need to notify (not even ask permission of) neighbors within a certain
radius, but the state of California is contesting even that small limitation
on their use. Frank Eggert, the longest serving town council member in
California (36 years), crafted the Fairfax ordinance. San Anselmo and
Sausalito, two other Northern California communities are also working on
similar ordinances.
