Save DC's Neighborhood Schools
From: Save Our Neighborhood Schools
The Coalition to Save Our Neighborhood Schools is a group of D.C. parents, teachers, educators, residents and community activists. Our sole purpose is to aggressively and pro-actively stop the closing of 23 neighborhood D.C. public schools. The first public announcement of the school closings came from the Washington Post in a November, 2007 news article. Neither parents, teachers, administrators nor the D.C. City Council were aware of the 23 proposed closings. The schools are slated to close by August 2008. More than 5,000 students will be in different schools by September 2008. In addition to the 23 schools, 27 more District public schools are slated for restructuring. This could mean more school closings.
Take action to save our neighborhood schools!

Ensure Citizen Participation in the Selling of DC's Public Property
From: Empower DC, People's Property Campaign
The DC Government has been giving away, selling, and otherwise disposing of public property to developers at unprecedented rates. Bill 17-0527 would create a new process for the disposal of public property and it would make the city follow the laws already on the books.

Take Action. Support Green Jobs!

The Green Jobs Act of 2007 authorized $125 million per year to create an Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Worker Training Program as an amendment to the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). The Green Jobs Act (GJA) is an initial pilot program to identify needed skills, develop training programs, and train workers for jobs in a range of industries - including energy efficient building, construction and retrofits, renewable electric power, energy efficient vehicles, biofuels, and manufacturing that produces sustainable products and uses sustainable processes and materials. It targets a broad range of populations for eligibility, but has a special focus on creating "green pathways out of poverty."
Congress has not yet appropriated money for the Green Jobs Act. Please contact your Senator today and urge them to fund the Green Jobs Act of 2007!
