Description

The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, located near Prairie City Iowa, is one of the largest ecological restoration efforts in the United States. Our mission is to restore Tallgrass prairie and Oak savana. We will be hosting this event to encourage volunteers to work with staff on stewardship projects thoughout the refuge. The event starts at 8:00am at the Prairie Learning Center where volunteers will be assigned a team and head out to the project sites. Projects include invasive species removal & survey, planting native prairie plants,site rehab etc.

Kids Fun Run (200m) race begins at 8:45am Envi-Run 5K race begins at 9:00am The Envi-Run is intended to celebrate Earth Day and foster appreciation for natural areas throughout the Ames/Iowa State community. It provides healthy lifestyles for adults and children and highlights the connection between personal health and the health of our surrounding environment. Proceeds from the Envi-Run are donated to the City of Ames Department of Parks and Recreation and used to help maintain Ada Hayden Heritage Park. The Envi-Run is organized by graduate students from the club Graduate Research in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology (GREBE).
