OCA’s reliable ally, the Alliance for Natural Health, warns:

“Will the supplements you need be placed behind store counters, or locked away in a case?

“A number of states are considering bills that would restrict access to certain supplements… We need to send a strong message across the country that these bills are an ill-advised, unnecessary attack on our freedom.

“The problem is we don’t know how many supplements will fall under the loosely defined categories set forth in these bills. According to these bills, the supplements that could be targeted include a broad array of products, including protein powders, hormones, like progesterone and DHEA, glandulars, and lipotropics, which may include essential nutrients like B vitamins and choline. Is it really a good idea, in the midst of a pandemic that threatens our health, to restrict access to these products?”

For years OCA’s sister organizations in Mexico, Via Organica and the Asociacion de Consumidores Organica, have worked in coalitions such as Sin Maiz no Hay Pais (“Without Corn there is no Country”) to ban the cultivation of GMO corn and soybeans in Mexico, with major recent successes in the courts and the national legislature.

As Al Jazeera reports:

“Mexico currently bans the cultivation of GM corn – a status quo the Supreme Court reinforced in October when it affirmed the right of Mexican authorities to refuse applications to plant GM corn.

“But the government appeared to signal that could just be the start of a wider crackdown. In December 2020, a presidential decree was issued seeking to ban GM corn for human consumption by 2024. The move triggered an outcry north of the border. More than 90 percent of the corn grown in the United States is genetically engineered, and Mexico is the biggest buyer of it…

“Mexico currently imports 16 million tons of corn ($2.7bn annually) each year from the US – mostly yellow corn for livestock and industrial purposes.

“White corn for human consumption is grown domestically in Mexico. The Supreme Court decision in October was in response to a challenge led by crop giant Bayer after Mexican authorities rejected an import of the company’s GM corn seed. The court upheld an eight-year-old injunction against planting GM corn, the product of a class action brought by farmers, consumers, and environmental leaders in 2013.

“Citing the constitutional right to a clean environment, the Supreme Court decision dealt a decisive blow to Bayer and other multinational seed companies. Bayer reportedly said that the decision to reject its import was “unscientific”, noting that the company holds itself to “unprecedented” safety testing and standards.”

“It seems every week some new “expert” who spent the last two years predicting we’re all gonna die turns up on the news claiming we should “treat Covid like the flu”.

“But just because they’re giving slack on Covid does not mean the agenda behind Covid is gone. Far from it.

“In fact, even as they seek to dump this pandemic in a shallow grave, they are already prepping the public for the next health scare – AIDs.

“In December Joe Biden claimed it was the aim of his administration to “end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2030”. A similar campaign, launched in the UK at the same, uses the same exact phrase, word for word…

“Even while the problem and reaction are still barely out of the research and development stage, they’re already talking about the solution.

Allison Johnson writes:

• Underappreciated farmworkers and farming communities with the expertise and ambition necessary to build a better food system;

• Producers who realize industrial agricultural practices no longer work because they are harmful to the soil and to people and communities; and

• Many more producers who care deeply about farming and their communities, and with the necessary information, mentorship, risk management tools, and social support could successfully farm in healthier and climate-friendly ways.

“So what’s holding us back?

“Simply put, the U.S. hasn’t made the long-term health of our food and farming system—and the people and resources who make it work—a priority. But it’s not too late.”

The Defender writes:

“Truth will out. Eventually, given enough time, the good, the bad and the ugly will be revealed.

“Such is the case with Monsanto‘s dubious herbicide glyphosate. The long-winding story on how Monsanto and its governmental enablers at the Environmental Protection Agency first registered the weedkiller Roundup under at best dubious circumstances is sickening.

“In March 2015 U.S District Judge for the Northern District of California allowed public release of internal Monsanto documents showing how Monsanto influenced EPA to reclassify glyphosate from a Class C carcinogen to a Class E category which paved the way for glyphosate Roundup production. It was nothing short of a cover-up that put greed ahead of public safety.”

Mercola.com reports:

Glyphosate-based herbicides like Roundup are the most heavily used agricultural chemicals of all time, with 1.76 million tons being applied to U.S. fields alone between 1974 — when glyphosate was first approved — and 2014.

By the end of 2021, glyphosate usage had expanded so much that worldwide glyphosate sales were forecasted to reach $4.95 billion by 2025. Paradoxically, in early 2022 some farmers are looking to develop alternative, non-herbicide weed-control measures due to an expanded market and pandemic- and hurricane-related supply problems that have caused supply shortages and driven up the cost of glyphosate.

Since the popularity of this herbicide was built on reckless deceit, and there’s really no telling how many people around the world have paid for Monsanto’s lies with their lives, it seems rather karmic that the COVID-19 pandemic, of all things, is what’s driving farmers to farm more organically…While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been testing foods for glyphosate, and tests reportedly revealed “a fair amount” of residues, their findings have not yet been made public.

In fact, the USDA doesn’t even test for glyphosate in some of the foods most known for glyphosate contamination, such as oats and chickpeas. But EWG’s testing in 2018 revealed 43 out of 45 food products made with conventionally grown oats tested positive for glyphosate, 31 of which had glyphosate levels higher than EWG scientists believe would be protective of children’s health.

Examples of foods with detectable levels of glyphosate included Quaker Dinosaur Eggs instant oatmeal, Cheerios cereal, Nature Valley granola bars, Quaker steel cut oats and Back to Nature Classic Granola.

Colin Todhunter writes:

“In the report ‘Who Will Feed Us? The Industrial Food Chain vs the Peasant Food Web (ETC Group, 2017), it was shown that a diverse network of small-scale producers (the peasant food web) actually feeds 70% of the world, including the most hungry and marginalized.

“The flagship report indicated that only 24% of the food produced by the industrial food chain actually reaches people. Furthermore, it was shown that industrial food costs us more: for every dollar spent on industrial food, it costs another two dollars to clean up the mess.

“However, two prominent papers have since claimed that small farms feed only 35% of the global population… [In response] “ETC Group has published an 16-page report ‘Small-scale Farmers and Peasants Still Feed the World‘ … indicating how the authors indulged in methodological and conceptual gymnastics and certain important omissions to arrive at the 35% figure – not least by changing the definition of ‘family farmer’ and by defining a ‘small farm’ as less than 2 hectares (5 acres).”
