COVID-19

Pandemic Injustice

Children receiving food from a cafeteria line

The mass media have at times referred to COVID-19 as the great equalizer, but in truth this Frankenvirus and the disastrous government responses to the epidemic have fallen most heavily on the underclass—workers, small businesses, people of color, the poor, as well as the powerless, children and youth.

SARS-CoV-2 is a highly transmissible biological trigger that, rather than infecting, sickening, and killing healthy and unhealthy, young and old alike, magnifies and exacerbates “pre-existing” medical conditions among the elderly and the chronically ill, preventing the body’s natural defense systems from fighting off the virus.

The chronic disease and comorbidities that underlie the hospitalizations and deaths attributed to COVID-19 clearly affect the underclass and the powerless far worse than others, and the countermeasures implemented to quell the outbreak have been a phenomenal boon for wealthy billionaires while decimating the lives of the overwhelming majority of the world.

Rather than addressing the underlying causes of the pandemic: reckless genetic engineering experiments carried out in unregulated, accident-prone labs such as the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and an epidemic of basically preventible and often reversible chronic disease—obesity, diabetes, hypertension, liver disease, lung disease—that underlie the hospitalizations and deaths triggered by SARS-CoV-2, the authorities tell us the outbreak was natural and that only lockdowns and vaccines can protect us. Rather than calling for focused, targeted protection, preventive supplements, and therapies for those most vulnerable, many of us have fallen into panic or guilt and become victimized by broad-stroke lockdowns, lulled into submission by genetically engineered, rushed-to-market vaccines that are neither properly safety-tested nor effective.

GREENING THE DESERT

Agave Power

Ronnie with Mexican landscape

OCA’s Mexico affiliate, Via Organica, in a project sponsored by OCA and our sister project Regeneration International, operates a research farm and teaching center outside San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, in the semi-arid drylands of North Central Mexico.

Over the past several years we have been working with a group of innovative small farmers and agronomists to develop a new system of organic and regenerative desert agriculture and holistic livestock management, utilizing native plants and trees (agave and mesquite).

We believe that Agave Power has the potential to revolutionize farming and ranching in the arid and semi-arid farmlands and rangelands that constitute 40% of the world’s lands. We believe that we can green the desert, eliminate rural poverty, and sequester massive amounts of excess atmospheric CO2 both aboveground and below ground with this Agave Power agroforestry system, which builds upon native wisdom and small farmer innovation.

Weaponizing Conspiracy Theory

Conspiracy text

Natural Health Advocate Nate Doromal explains how the perpetrators and apologists for the “official” story on COVID-19 have weaponized the term “conspiracy theory” to delegitimize and censor the views of dissident scientists, investigators, and public interest organizations such as the OCA and Dr. Mercola in regard to the origins, nature, virulence, prevention, and treatment of COVID-19.

Since Covid-19 took over the daily news and media reporting earlier this year, the term “conspiracy theory” has been used as a tool of censorship by the mainstream media sources, enabling them to avoid looking at the true origins, nature, and treatment of the pandemic. It is indeed true that we are living in an “age of misinformation,” a time when it is legitimately hard to tell what exactly is true and what isn’t. But during this time, how do we make sense of the non-stop flood of contradictory Covid-19 information? And what do we make of alleged Covid-19 conspiracies?

But seldom is it given thought that the term “conspiracy theorist” can become weaponized; the charge becoming a means to stifle free inquiry into a topic. Who decides what is valid information versus misinformation? And who decides what distinguishes a conspiracy theory from real corruption?

BIDEN’S CABINET

Haaland Brings Hope

Photo of Rep Deb Haaland

Finally, President-Elect Biden has done something right!

His recent nomination of Representative Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is a beacon of hope for public lands, our climate, and Native communities.

As an enrolled member of the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico, Rep. Haaland will make history as the first Native American to lead a Cabinet agency.

Haaland has been a champion for public lands protection, climate action, free speech, and the upholding of Native rights and heritage. Her voice will help move our country towards the change, healing, and regeneration that is so desperately needed.

"Growing up in my mother’s Pueblo household made me fierce. I’ll be fierce for all of us, our planet, and all of our protected land. I am honored and ready to serve” said Rep. Haaland.

SECRETARY VILSACK

Same As the Old USDA

photo of Tom Vilsack

Thank you to everyone who signed our petition to President-Elect Joe Biden asking him not to put former Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) in charge of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Heitkamp will not be Agriculture Secretary. Unfortunately, Biden has chosen the only person who could be any worse: Tom Vilsack, Secretary in the Obama-Biden Administration (2009-2017).

If you've followed our Millions Against Monsanto campaign since then, or if you joined the movement through the March Against Monsanto, you know him as Mr. Monsanto, the guy who put more GMOs into our food supply—along with all the pesticides those GMOs were engineered to resist—than anyone on Earth.

Vilsack's misdeeds are too numerous to list in one action alert, so we'll be bringing you a series of articles. Our first installment lists Vilsack's GMOs, from Roundup Ready sugar beets to lab "meat"—16 in all!

Schools of Thought

Masked student with classroom in background

There are two schools of thought about what our post-pandemic world will look like.

The defenders of the status quo can’t wait to get back to a “business-as-usual” normal.

Then there are the optimists. Those who believe that if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that normal wasn’t working—and that we have an unprecedented opportunity to create something better.

We believe in, we hope for—we’re planning for—something better. We have to.

We have to believe that the pandemic has revealed, once and for all, that corrupt capitalism and a government beholden to corporate interests and the demands of the uber-wealthy is a recipe for a failed society.

But we also know that we are up against powerful forces—in the food industry, the chemical industry, the fossil fuel industry, the insurance industry, the war industry—that don’t want us to succeed.

This is no time for complacency. This is no time to coast, to take a wait-and-see approach to the future.

Now is the time to work harder than ever for the change we want. Because there are no guarantees.

As activist and author Noam Chomsky has pointed out:

“There is no way to predict. Those who have primary responsibility for the multiple crises that imperil us today are hard at work, relentlessly, to ensure that the system they created, and from which they have greatly benefited, will endure — and in an even harsher form, with more intense surveillance and other means of coercion and control.”

We need your financial support more than ever. If you’re in a position to help out, your donation today will be greatly appreciated—and put to good use. Thank you!
