In 2006, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), in an effort to make it illegal for consumers to acquire raw milk, redefined "cow share." When the DHMH redefined cow shares as "sales" of raw milk, the agency effectively banned raw milk in Maryland. Maryland's raw milk consumers have been working ever since to reinstate their right to obtain raw milk directly from farmers.
Now the Maryland General Assembly is considering lifting the ban on raw milk by reinstating cow (and goat) shares. Call and email the Health and Government Operations Committee members and tell them to vote for HB3, to reinstate legal cow shares in Maryland.
