A new book by food activists Bryant Terry and Anne Lappe dishes up the political impact of our food choices with a side serving of artwork, poetry and soundtracks for cooking.
Time to do some math, shall we? What happens when you take food that is organic, raised in a sustainable way, whole and locally grown, and add food that is produced fair from seed to table -- good for our bodies, communities and environment?
I know, it's a mouthful, and perhaps a tad bit bourgeoisie?

Mad cow disease was recently confirmed in a cow in Alabama, according to two tests conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Even so, the USDA seems just as reluctant as usual to admit that U.S. herds continue to be infected with mad cow disease. Even though the results of this second test have been announced, there is a whole lot of spin from the USDA on trying to suppress the severity of this news -- so let me translate it into plain English for you.

AMHERST, Massachusetts, May 15, 2006 (ENS) - Which are the most toxic air polluters in the United States? The Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts has answered that question with the Toxic 100, an updated list of the top corporate air polluters issued Thursday. The Toxic 100's top five companies are E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co., US Steel, ConocoPhillips, General Electric, and Eastman Kodak.
