In the summer of 1975, Cheney, as President Ford’s White House staffer, participated in the cover-up of the 1953 murder of CIA bioweapons scientist Frank Olson, by framing it as an MK-Ultra mishap.

Olson’s family had started raising questions about his suspicious death. He had supposedly thrown himself from a New York City hotel window in the presence of a CIA colleague. To prevent the truth from getting out, Dick Cheney helped craft the “CIA Suicide” limited hangout that suggested Olson killed himself after going crazy during a bad LSD trip at a CIA retreat at Deep Creek Lake.

The titillating tale of CIA LSD distracted the public from the bigger story which was the likelihood that Frank Olson was murdered because he was going to blow the whistle on the CIA’s use of anthrax against the enemy during the Korean war.
